Store Clothing Away Properly to Prevent Mildew "Clothing stored in mothproof containers usually is also safe from mildew" Yesterday was about moths and today is about mildew. I'm getting a little grossed out by my closet right about now. What other hidden dangers is the almanac preparing me for right now? On the plus side, many man made fibers are resilient to mildew growth. What is Mildew? It is mold. Gross gross slimy mold. This usually happens when you have humid areas that just create some moist atmospheres. Since closets are small spaces without air flow, it is a great equation for making mildew. How can you prevent mildew growth? This is the part of my almanac that I love. They suggest using chemicals to protect fabrics while they are stored away. An Irish Fruitcake, Begorra! "It's Saint Patrick's Day. So let's think Irish. For instance, how about an Irish whiskey fruitcake." Ok Begorra isn't a food. It is a euphemism that means "by God". In some Irish counties, saying begorra means "Holy Mother of God". So it's kind of like....slang. You can click here for a recipe for a Traditional Irish Fruitcake , which is called barmbrack. Our Almanac post suggests that you purchase one from Molly O'Rourke's Label! Unfortunately, the company that made these famous fruit cakes has gone out of business. These cakes in a green tin were sought after at one point.  It's almost sad to see them gone and not find much information on their company and how it got started. ...
