24 May 2018 - Party Potatoes!

Tips on Making Potato Salad "The season for picnics and outdoor dining has arrived in most of the country. These meals won't be complete without potato salad." Whenever we need potato salad we usually just call my mother in law. Because she makes some killer potato salad. It's not a loaf like this awesome ad above but it certainly completes any meal. Here are the tips that our Almanac suggests: 1. Use potatoes that have thin skins. Boil them in their "jackets" and then skin the potatoes. Slice or dice into a bowl. 2. Prepare a marinade. Equal parts olive oil and cooking oil. 1 part vinegar. 3. Include chopped parsley, dill, chives, and/or onion. Mix everything together an pour over the potatoes then gently mix in. ... I'm really not sure why mayonnaise isn't anywhere here. Mayo is the glue that holds your potato salad together! What I want to know is how to make this potato salad loaf! Luck...

26 March 2018 - Guess Who's Back, Christ is Back, Tell a Friend

Stuffed Lamb Cushion for Easter "Lamb is a traditional food for Eater. The lamb is a symbol of Jesus. In John 1:29 Jesus is referred to as "The Lamb of God", who takes away the sin of the world." Lamb is also a traditional Passover meal. In the book of Exodus, God was determined to save His people from their captivity in Egypt. The last plague He sent to Egypt was the death of the firstborn. God commanded that His people take an unblemished lamb, kill it, and but the blood of the lamb on their door post.  This would be a sign for the Angel of Death to "passover" the house and not strike their firstborn. It would be after their freedom from slavery that God would institute traditional sacrifice for sins that would involve a lamb. Jesus' last supper was the Passover meal. He and His disciples ate lamb before He instituted the new covenant, teaching His disciples to remember Him in communion.  Jesus would go on to be betraye...

9 March 2018 - Hakuna Matata

Gather Your Own Escargots? Maybe You Can "Depending on where you live in the U.S., you may be able to gather enough edible snails in your backyard to try one of the gourmet recipes found in most cookbooks." Let me start this post by saying this: No No NOOOOOOOOOO Do not do this people unless you absolutely know how to identify snails that can be eaten. BUT Even if you have identified the proper snail to eat. DON'T DO IT! Snails live and eat outside right. Sometimes a snail can eat something that can have a toxic effect to a human if consumed. It is much safer to just go and buy snails that are raised specifically for escargot. Snail farms are a real thing here ok. And I know you are probably thinking some fool makes a living raising snails but they are out there. Mostly because there are fools out there who will eat a freaking snail. However, if you are interested in eating a garden pest, here is a link for a simple es...

28 & 29 February 2018 - Your End of Month Potpourri

February Potpourri for Homemakers As usual the end of the month marks a mix of things for us Homemakers to pay attention too. This post will also incorporate an extra day incase of a Leap Year! Here are your Homemaking Tips: 1. Put a Paper Towel Under the Milk in the Fridge This helps catch drips so you don't have to wash the fridge so often. (wash fridge, is that a phrase you can use in a sentence?) 2. Clean Pictures and Mirrors Both of these can be cleaned using a regular glass cleaner 3. Use Paper Towels for Fatty Foods I'm sensing a theme. After cooking bacon or sausage, place on a paper towel after cooking to absorb the excess fat drippings. But be sure to save that bacon goodness for you know bird feeders! 4. Blot up Liquids with Paper Towels form Your Carpets and Rugs Absorb by dabbing the liquid from the carpet and then clean using the appropriate surface cleaner. 5. Use pieces of wax paper to spread fat when greasing ...

22 February 2018 - Happy Birthday Mr. President

Kippered Cherries for Washington's Birthday "They want us to celebrate Washington's birthday as part of a long weekend." Earlier this week we were out of work and school because of President's Day. Our nation's first President, Mr. George Washington died in 1799. On February 22, 1800 the nation remembered their first president as this was actually his day of birth. It wasn't until the 1870's that his birthday became a federal holiday. In 1971, the Uniform Monday Holiday Act took effect and such holidays were moved to a Monday in the month to give workers a longer weekend. Washington's Birthday, Veterans Day, Memorial Day and Columbus Day were all moved from their traditional dates. Marketers soon jumped on this opportunity to promote sales on these " 3 day weekends". Celebrate the birthday of our nation's first president by getting free shipping! (No lie. I got free shipping on an order this weekend.)...
