Taking Care of Your Formica Surfaces

"So many homes have Formica laminates on kitchen counters and other surfaces that we want to pass along some good care information from a booklet put out by the Formica corporation."

Formica Laminate was invented in 1912.

You have probably seen it and abused it in kitchens where you live or have lived.

I hate it.

It is a flimsy plastic that stains and damages easy.

You can get laminate in different styles other than off white.

You can get all kinds of fake looks from wood to granite.

Our Almanac has some tips on taking care of your liar liar pants on fire counters.

1. Don't use your counters as a cutting board.
I didn't really think that this was a thing that had to be told to people but I recently saw a video of a woman cooking on a flat surface stove. ON the stove without a pot or pan. WTF people.

2. Heat up to 275 degrees Fahrenheit
So basically boiling water should be ok if some spills on the counter. However, do not ever put a pan straight from the oven or stovetop directly on the counter.
Also, don't iron on the surface.
(again this had to be said)
Refrain as well from placing your ashtray and cigarettes on the Formica.
(this was the 70's readers)

3. Keep dyes off your formica
This includes dye that could rub off your grocery packaging.
This happened to me! Blue ink got on the formica from a bread bag.

So there you go.

This fake plastic is just too much to handle so just don't do it!

8 June 2018 - I Need a Vacation

"Wish You Were Here" "A new kind of vacation has become popular in recent years. Two families exchange homes for the vacation period - and both benefit." This is the premise of one of my favorite movies The Holiday In this 2006 movie, our main characters go onto a website called HomeExchange.com. They decide they want away from their tormented lives on Christmas so they vacation in each others homes for the Christmas Holiday. It's an adorable movie that ends all cuddly and romantically. Our Almanac suggests that if you wish to try this out you should join the Vacation Exchange Club! In the 1970's, this was a directory of people who were all part of this home exchange club. It featured homes around the world so you could swap homes with people from different backgrounds. This is also a chance for you to visit far off places and check off some countries from your bucket list. Home Exchange is still operating today. You ...

19 March 2018 - Why Woodn't You

Try Putting Up Wallboard? Why Not? "In the spring one tends to think about the sprucing up the home." In the 70's wood paneling was all the rage. Wallboard or as it commonly called today - Decorative Paneling. There are some seriously cute panelings out there today. Typically, when you think of wall paneling, you think of wooden paneling. I have some in my living room and it is very dated. It's so dark that is great for movie nights but mostly it just feels like a room that is sucking the light from your house. I found an article from Houzz that has some modern looks for us in the year 2018. So if you decide to go the way of decorative paneling, please steer clear of the basic stuff, and go for a nice chic modern look!

26 March 2018 - Guess Who's Back, Christ is Back, Tell a Friend

Stuffed Lamb Cushion for Easter "Lamb is a traditional food for Eater. The lamb is a symbol of Jesus. In John 1:29 Jesus is referred to as "The Lamb of God", who takes away the sin of the world." Lamb is also a traditional Passover meal. In the book of Exodus, God was determined to save His people from their captivity in Egypt. The last plague He sent to Egypt was the death of the firstborn. God commanded that His people take an unblemished lamb, kill it, and but the blood of the lamb on their door post.  This would be a sign for the Angel of Death to "passover" the house and not strike their firstborn. It would be after their freedom from slavery that God would institute traditional sacrifice for sins that would involve a lamb. Jesus' last supper was the Passover meal. He and His disciples ate lamb before He instituted the new covenant, teaching His disciples to remember Him in communion.  Jesus would go on to be betraye...
