How to Save Money and Energy in Oven Use

"Efficient use of the kitchen oven can save a lot of electricity or gas, and thereby reduce your utility bills."

Our Almanac post today is all about saving energy while you cook.

After reading our 1970's version, I decided to get on that Google and see how we can save money in 2018.

Really what I saw is a lot of common sense.
There isn't a magical way to save money and energy when you cook.
So here are some tips you might already be doing.

Defrost
You can defrost what you need before cooking.
What a great idea. I had never considered this....

Cooking
Use the correct size cooking pan or pot.
Also use the correct kind of cooking surfaces. Not all are made the same.

Be Clean
Clean cooking surfaces.
Remove grease and other soil from your pots and pans to help them cook evenly.

Prep
Have your meal prepping done and a plan made to more efficiently prepare a meal.

...

Saving money and energy isn't something that I consider a lot.
I really want to say that I can even remember to defrost something.
I want to say that I always remember to turn off the oven or a burner after using it

With technology today, we have more energy efficient appliances on the market to save us money on our electric bill. So you can worry more about turning off lights in rooms and keep your thermostat at a reasonable temperature.

One way for me to save money on electricity is to sleep.
Can't use electricity if I'm napping.

8 June 2018 - I Need a Vacation

"Wish You Were Here" "A new kind of vacation has become popular in recent years. Two families exchange homes for the vacation period - and both benefit." This is the premise of one of my favorite movies The Holiday In this 2006 movie, our main characters go onto a website called HomeExchange.com. They decide they want away from their tormented lives on Christmas so they vacation in each others homes for the Christmas Holiday. It's an adorable movie that ends all cuddly and romantically. Our Almanac suggests that if you wish to try this out you should join the Vacation Exchange Club! In the 1970's, this was a directory of people who were all part of this home exchange club. It featured homes around the world so you could swap homes with people from different backgrounds. This is also a chance for you to visit far off places and check off some countries from your bucket list. Home Exchange is still operating today. You ...

19 March 2018 - Why Woodn't You

Try Putting Up Wallboard? Why Not? "In the spring one tends to think about the sprucing up the home." In the 70's wood paneling was all the rage. Wallboard or as it commonly called today - Decorative Paneling. There are some seriously cute panelings out there today. Typically, when you think of wall paneling, you think of wooden paneling. I have some in my living room and it is very dated. It's so dark that is great for movie nights but mostly it just feels like a room that is sucking the light from your house. I found an article from Houzz that has some modern looks for us in the year 2018. So if you decide to go the way of decorative paneling, please steer clear of the basic stuff, and go for a nice chic modern look!

26 March 2018 - Guess Who's Back, Christ is Back, Tell a Friend

Stuffed Lamb Cushion for Easter "Lamb is a traditional food for Eater. The lamb is a symbol of Jesus. In John 1:29 Jesus is referred to as "The Lamb of God", who takes away the sin of the world." Lamb is also a traditional Passover meal. In the book of Exodus, God was determined to save His people from their captivity in Egypt. The last plague He sent to Egypt was the death of the firstborn. God commanded that His people take an unblemished lamb, kill it, and but the blood of the lamb on their door post.  This would be a sign for the Angel of Death to "passover" the house and not strike their firstborn. It would be after their freedom from slavery that God would institute traditional sacrifice for sins that would involve a lamb. Jesus' last supper was the Passover meal. He and His disciples ate lamb before He instituted the new covenant, teaching His disciples to remember Him in communion.  Jesus would go on to be betraye...
