Pest Control Begins with Good Housekeeping
"Systematic housekeeping helps control household pests. You can rid your home of practically all pests, and keep it free of them, by a combination of continuous good housekeeping and the proper use of the right pesticide at the right time."
I swear I hate bugs.
All the bugs.
The biting ones.
The blood sucking ones.
They flying ones especially!
Twice I have had the unfortunate situation where a neighbor wasn't as clean as they could have been and introduced pests to our home.
It seemed like no matter what we did the bugs just wanted to come in.
One time our house was invaded by fire ants. These spawns from hell itself crawled into my kids beds and bit them at night. I was sooooo mad.
...
Here is what our Almanac suggests for continuous pest control.
Practice Sanitation
Spoiled food in your pantry, refrigerator, trash can, or corners of the floor can be magnets for bugs.
Be sure to wipe down counter tops and the corners. Clean out the corners of the floors. Take out trash regularly.
Promptly dispose of garbage
Tie up anything organic and put in the trash. Take all trash out to a covered can outside. Keep your outside trash container away from entry ways to keep bugs from trying to find their way in.
Keep all foods in tightly closed containers
Put your loose dry goods in a container to keep bugs out.
Don't permit insect pests to hitchhike into your home
Some packaging can attract bugs like roaches and silverfish.
When you come home with packages, be sure to dispose of them quickly.
...
Be sure that if you ever decide to use chemicals or pesticides, that you follow all directions carefully.
Sometimes you might just need to call a professional.
Having pests is nothing to be ashamed of. It doesn't necessarily mean that you are just a bad homemaker but that you are like everyone else who deals with this.
Bugs are everywhere! Even if you can't see them, they are probably all over your home.
And it's ok!
We are all part of the circle of life.
It's just easier for all of us if we just live separately in our own little habitats.
