Wringer Washer? Maybe You Could Use One
"Automatic washing machines have driven wringer and spinner washers from the majority of modern homes"
I think we all know someone who had one of these!
I still remember hearing people talk about pumping water to take the wash. Using a washboard to clean laundry and then hanging them to dry.
Our Almanac post suggests that in the 1970's, if you still have on of these to use them for grimy clothing to conserve energy.
If you think that this idea is a product of the past think again!
These are marketed for people who need one for camping or "living off the grid".
You can find a lot of these on Amazon.
My Grandma recently told me that she still has her mom's old wringer washer! That would be kind of cool to have one day.
I wouldn't really use it. I have 3 kids! They fill up their laundry basket like every other day!
In the 30's, people had two to three outfits and two pairs of shoes. So yeah, I can see why you could just graciously wash some linens and wring them out by hand.
I think if I ever lost my washer and dryer, I would just convince my family to be nudists.
