Where There's a Will There's a Way
"Belva Ann Bennett Lockwood, the first woman lawyer admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court in 1879, undoubtedly knew all the answers about wills and estate planning. But the rest of us need help."
Today's Almanac post is two fold so lets unwrap this.
Belva was an attorney, politician, educator, and author. She was a woman's rights activist and suffragette. She was also the first woman to successfully petition Congress to be allowed to practice before the United States Supreme Court.
If that wasn't enough she also ran for President in 1884 and 1888 on the under the National Equal Rights Party becoming the first woman to appear on official ballots.
It is amazing what women had to endure just because of gender.
