Raise Shasta Daisies, Burbank's Pride
"This is the birthday of Luther Burbank, the almost legendary plant breeder and hybridizer born in 1849 on a far at Lancaster, Massachusetts."
This guy liked plants.
He liked them so much that in his 55 year career, he developed more than 800 strains of various fruits, grains, flowers, vegetables, and grasses.
Of all his hybrids, his most famous was the Shasta Daisy.
This flower is a cross of the Oxeye Daisy and the English Field Daisy.
It might not be the red rose but this was a grand thing to do in the 1800's. One didn't just simply get two different flowers to fall in love and make a new breed of flower.
Since it's birth, these little daisies are an icon for every gardener to have.
