Can You Choose a Good Cantaloupe?
"Picking any melon for excellent quality and flavor is difficult, challenging the skill of even the most experienced shopper."
Everyone has their tips for how to find the perfect melon.
Some say you can smell the ripeness.
Some say you should knock on them and listen to it.
I'm guessing for it to give you permission to eat it.
Here are some tell tell signs that your cantaloupe is ready for eat'in.
The rind of the melon should have a good color.
The mix of green and yellow in the "netting" of the rind will tell you that it is ripe.
Too green and not ready yet.
Too yellow and it might be over ripe.
Another way to feel the blossom end.
This is the opposite end of the stem end.
The blossom end should be a little soft but not give to much.
Smelling the melon.
It should have a sweet smell.
If it smells too much it is over ripe.
The only way to know for sure though, is to just cut into it!
Wow!
